Shelton Arthur Tippett, 67, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010.

Shelton was a native of Halifax County, the son of the late Leslie Mason Tippett and Estelle Allen Tippett. He served his country with the United States Navy. Shelton was retired from International Paper Co. in Roanoke Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Estelle Tippett, his grandparents Walter and Bessie Tippett and a grandson, Cody Shelton Tippett.

Mr. Tippett is survived by his wife, Barbara White Tippett; two sons, Tony and his wife, Dawn, of Roanoke Rapids, Rob and his wife, Tina, of Hopewell, VA; and a daughter, Christy Tippett Lyles and her husband, Travis, of Roanoke Rapids; nine grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; a sister, Connie T. Daniel and her husband, Cliff; several nieces and nephews; a special niece that was always there for him, Wendy Turner; and best friends, Ray and Becky Hux of Chester, VA and Bobby and Peggy Rose of Littleton, NC.

Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Askew Funeral Services chapel on Friday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wayne White and Minister Bane Angles officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Tippett’s service to his country.
